Wedrockers 102 - Learning, Fun and Rock n' Roll

Me atrasé un poco en subir este post, han sido dias de mucha carretera y compromisos por cumplir, pero esta intensidad es de la que uno aprende. Estas son algunas cuantas fotillos del taller de los Wedrockers, el 102, en Las Nubes en Monterrey. Tuve el honor de ser el fotografo oficial del evento y estoy inmensamente agradecido con Rafa, Fer, y David Jouse por la invitacion, por su amistad y por esta experiencia tan chida. Aqui hubo de todo, networking, miles de clicks, mucho relajo, cientos de risas, una experiencia increible. Gracias a TODOS!

I'm a little behind on this post, but these days have been quite busy with all the driving and the pending assignments but we learn a lot out of these intense days. These are a few shots from the Wedrockers workshop 102 in Las Nubes, Monterrey. I had the privilege to be the official photographer for this event and I can't fully express my gratitude to Rafa, Fer and David Josue for the invitation, for their incredible friendship and for such a cool experience. We had a little bit of everything in the workshop, networking, tons of clicks, lots of fun, hundreds of laughs, truly and incredible experience. A big thanks to ALL of you guys!

Wedrockers 102 Preview

Este lunes tuve el honor de que mis amigos y colegas los Wedrockers me invitaran como su fotografo oficial para su workshop 102 en Las Nubes, Monterrey. Fue un dia largo y extremadamente productivo, aqui les dejo un preview. Estamos listos para este Martes seguir con el segundo dia del taller. Animo!

This Monday I had the honor of being invited by my friends and colleagues the Wedrockers to be the official photographer for their workshop '102' in the beautiful venue of Las Nubes in Monterrey, Mexico. It was quite a long day, but very productive, here is a small preview. We are ready to rock again tomorrow for the next day of lots of learning. Keep it up!

I had insomnia last night, a big one, and I decided to keep working on my new sample album (which I think is looking awesome! I'll share with you the photos when I have it home) to see if the sleep will come. So I ended up checking lots and lots of photos, new and old and, and happily I found this image that was from the very first post of this blog from Ariana's E.Session. Since then (1 and a half year ago) I have learned a few more things of post production and I couldn't help to work on this photo again, I realy liked the outcome and I wanted to share it with you all again. Sometimes is nice to go back in time and check out stuff from there, really cool things might come up. You can see the original post here :)

Ji + Trent - Riviera Maya, MEX.

Nunca olvidaré esta boda. Ji y Trent son una pareja Canadiense que tuvo una maravillosa boda en el paraiso que es la Riviera Maya, para ser más precisos en el Grand Palladium, y que sin haber visto fotos mías de playa confiaron en mí y me escogieron para ser el testigo de su matrimonio. Esta boda ha sido una de las más intimas y emotivas que he visto, pocos invitados, mucho mucho sentimiento y una pareja bellisima y super divertida que me trató siempre como uno más de sus invitados. No tengo palabras para agradecerles, sólo puedo hacerlo con mis imágenes. Gracias Ji y Trent, se que tendran un matrimonio increible, son fantásticos!

I will never forget this wedding. Ji and Trent are a Canadian couple that had the most wonderful wedding in the Grand Palladium Riviera Maya and that event without seeing beach wedding photos in my portfolio they chose me as their camera witness for their wedding. This wedding is for sure one of the most intimate and emotive weddings that I have seen, a very small number of guests, a lot of feeling and the most beautiful couple. They were super fun to work with and they always treated me as one more of their guests, I have no words to say thanks to their hospitality, I can only say thank you through my photos. Thanks Ji and Trent, I know you will have the most beautiful marriage, you guys rock!

Magic Days at WPPI

Para escribir este post podria llevarme un día completo, hay tantas cosas tan bellas que contar de esta maravillosa semana en WPPI. Más allá de poder aprender de los mejores fotógrafos del mundo y de convivir con una enorme familia de increibles artistas, este congreso nos ha servido a muchos como inspiración para seguir adelante detrás de las cámaras, ser mejores fotógrafos, artistas, seres humanos. Gracias a todos los amigos con los que compartí estos días, a los que conocí en Vegas y de los que aprendí tanto. Gracias mis amigos por esa semana tan genial, estamos de vuelta y darle para adelante con todo!

I could take the whole day to write this post, there are so many amazing things that I could tell about this past week in WPPI. Beyond having the privilege to learn from some of the best photographers in the world and to spend a great time with a huge family of incredible artists, this congress has been a strong inspiration to keep improving behind the camera, to become better photographers, artists, human beings. Thank you to all my friends with whom I share this wonderful experience, the ones that I already know and the ones that I met in Vegas and from whom I learned so much. Thanks my friends for this unbelievable week, we are back to work and we are ready to rock!

WPPI - Day 1

Este Domingo tengo el gusto de estar en la conferencia WPPI en el hotel MGM Grand de Las Vegas. Este evento es el punto de reunion obligado para todos los fotógrafos de Estados Unidos y del mundo en el que durante 4 días tendremos la oportunidad de aprender de los más grande de la industria, conocer a muchisima gente interesante de todo el mundo y tirar muchos clicks! Los mantendré informados :)

This Sunday I had the joy to attend to the WPPI conference in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This event is mandatory for all the photographers in the US and around the world since we have the change during 4 days to learn from the top photographers in the industry, meet lost of interesting people from around the world and click a bunch!. Natural Light is Beautiful

Resistirme a subir esta foto fué imposible. Esta mañana justo después de encender mi laptop para checar mis correos me topé con esta vista. Estos son los perfumes de mi esposa, la pic fue tomada alrededor de las 7:30 a.m. y la luz que en ese momento les caía era hermosa. Siempre hay que estar atentos a los detalles que nos rodean, hay cosas increibles por descubrir y fotografiar!

It was impossible to resist to upload this photo. This morning right after I turned on my laptop to check my emails I had this cool sight right behind me. These are my wife's perfumes, the picture was taken at about 7:30 a.m. and the light falling over them was just beautiful. No doubt that we have to keep our eyes open to the details, there are very cool things to discover and shoot out there!

Family Session Trilogy - Part 2

Esta es la segunda entrega como dirian los cinéfilos de las sesiónes familiares que tuve este Enero. El día de la sesión el clima nos castigó un poco y tuvimos que cambiar los planes y tirar todo en interiores (el plan era parque y exteriores) pero gracias a Dios esta hermosa familia no se desanimó y pasamos una tarde muy divertida!

This is the second part of the saga, as some cinema adicts would say, of the family sessions that I had this January. The day of the shooting the weather changed pretty quickly so we had to do some last minute changes to our plan (shooting outdoors in a park) and we had to go and shoot everything indoors, but thank God this beautiful family didn't feel bad with the idea and we really had a great time that evening!

Awesome Surprise

No queria dejar pasar este detalle por alto. La semana pasada Karina nos sorprendio a Vero y a mi con este detallazo (ver foto adjunta) como muestra de agradecimiento por su sesión de aniversario. Detalles como este te desarman y no hay palabras para agradecer este gesto de los clientes. Muchas, muchas pero muchas gracias por el detalle y esto nos motiva a seguir para adelante!!

I didn't want to miss to mention this experience that we just had. Last week Karina surprised us with this super gesture (see photo below) as a way to say - Thank You! for the photos we took in here Anniversary session. Stuff like this really punch you straight to the heart and there are hardly any words to say how grateful we are when a clients comes and does something like this for us. Thank you very very VERY much guys, this is pure motivation to keep working harder and harder!

Esperando a Paulina

La historia va más o menos así: Cuando comenzé a andar con Vero hace ya algunos años, conocí a Doris y a Tavo, sus mejores amigos desde la prepa y en aquel entonces tendrían no más de 1 año de noviazgo.

Hay pocos hombres con tanta tenacidad amor y perseverancia como Tavo, por muchos años esperó a Doris hasta que conquistó su corazón. Su historia de amor es increible. Luego pasó no mucho tiempo cuando nos hicimos cómplices de Tavo para que le entregara el anillo de compromiso a Doris, ahí fueron las primeras fotos de algo así como un e-session que tomé, y fué un momento muy bello y emotivo.

En su boda, aunque había ya un fotógrafo, me tomé la libertad de hechar algunas pics, mis primeras pics de boda igualmente, aún no tenía la menor idea de que eso se convertiría en una pasión enorme en el futuro. Ahora, con la bendición de Dios, esperamos a Paulina, su primera beba, una nena ya deporsí muy muy amada y esperada por todos. Y también, para no perder la tradición, estas son mis primeras fotos de maternidad.

He tenido la enorme fortuna de capturar los momentos mas bellos de 2 de nuestros más grandes amigos, y estoy ansioso por tomar mis primeras fotos de un angelito recién nacido, se que eso será muy pronto...

So the story goes more or less like this: When I started dating Vero a few years ago I met Doris and Tavo, Vero's best friends since high school, and back then they had been dating for no more than a year I would say.

I have met very few men in my life with such patience, perseverance and love for a girl and Tavo is definitely one of them. He tried for so long to have Doris' love until he finally made it. Their story of love is unbelievable. Then it wasn't too long since Vero and I were Tavo's partners in crime to help him make a nice set up so he could surprise Doris with her engagement ring, it was then when I first took photos of something like my first e-session. The moment was awesome and very emotive.

On their wedding day, even though they had already hired a photographer, I took the liberty of taking a few clicks, and again those were the first clicks I made in a wedding although I had didn't have the slightest idea that that activity was going to become such a powerful passion in the future. Now, Doris and Tavo and all of us are waiting for Paulina, their first baby girl and a very loved baby already. And yet again, for not loosing the tradition, these are the first maternity pics that I have taken.

I have had the chance to photograph some of Doris and Tavo's most beautiful moments in their lives and I can't wait already to take my first photos of a new born little angel. I know it will be VERY soon...

Bueno pues el Sabadin pasado tuve el placer de conocer a Ric Grajeda, un chavo que además de tener un trabajode video impecable y de calidad increíble es una excelente persona. El es el creador de REELOVE, una empresa de Monterrey dedicada al video de bodas. Les recomiendo checar su sitio y ojala tenga el gusto de trabajar más veces con Ric en el futuro.

Arminda + Ray

La boda de Arminda y Ray la esperé con bastante emoción puesto que era la primera vez que me tocaba cubrir una boda tan familiar e íntima. Dicen que menos es más y Arminda y Ray son la prueba firme de ese dicho ya que su boda fué verdaderamente bella, el día estuvo fabuloso para su celebración al aire libre y la música flamenca del increíble Jake Cortez hicieron la velada perfecta. Feliciades y gracias por invitarme a una noche tan maravillosa.

I was really looking forward to shoot Arminda and Ray's wedding since I knew it was going to be a very intimate and familiar celebration. They say that less is more and Arminda and Ray set a great example of that saying since their waiting was truly beautiful. The day was super nice for the outdoor celebration and the incredible music from guitar player Jake Cortez made the perfect night. No seré breve esta vez, pero es necesario =)

A finales del 2007 Kari y Lalo confiaron en mí. Ellos decidieron darme la oportunidad de capturar su momentos más felices y yo me dí la oportunidad de tomar el primer paso en un negocio que amo basado en un arte que desde hace años era la vida para mí.

Desde Noviembre del 2007 hasta este 2008 que ya agoniza he tenido experiencias increibles fotografiando bodas, he presenciado momentos alegres, emotivos, fuertes pero sobre todo que no se van a repetir jamáz. Todos sucederán solo una vez en la vida y nunca volverán, y les doy las gracias a todos ustedes que están en estas imágenes por darme a mí ese regalo, el del ser testigo de esos días dichosos.

Les estoy agradecido, mucho, porque atravéz de su confianza, su alegría, su boda, han hecho que yo queria ser un mejor fotógrafo, un mejor profesional pero sobre todo una mejor persona.

I apologize for not being brief this time, it's necessary :)

Towards the end of 2007 Kari and Lalo trusted me. They decided to give me the chance of capturing the most beautiful moments of their lives and I gave me the chance to myself to start a business that now I love based on a craft that it's been my life since already a few years: Photography.

Since November of 2007 though these final weeks of 2008, I have had the chance to live incredible moments photographing weddings. I had been witness of very happy moments, emotional and strong as well but mostly unique since they will only happen once in a life time. I am very thankful to all of that are in those images because you have given me the gift of being a witness of those precious moments.

I am very thankful to you all since through your happiness, your trust, your wedding, you have made me want to be a better photographer, a better professional but among all a better person.

Cindy + Leo Formal Session

Como ya había comentado en mi post anterior, el fin de semana tuve el gusto de volver a ver a Cindy y Leo para su sesión formal porque el día de su boda estuvimos muy apurados y el tiempo no nos dejó hacer estos clicks. El sábado solo tuvimos pocos minutos para la sesión pero sólo buscamos una imagen, así que espero que la misión haya sido cumplida.

As I mentioned on my previous post last weekend I had the chance to see Cindy and Leo again for their formal session. On their wedding day we didn't have enough time to take those clicks so we had to make it up. On Saturday we only had a few minutes for the shoot but we were looking for just one great photo so, I hope that the mission was accomplished.

Our Honeymoon Part 2 - Samaná & St. Thomas

Después de dejar NY Vero y Yo tuvimos nuestra siguiente parada en República Dominicana por unas horas, solo estuvimos unas poquitas horas ya que el barco se retrasó saliendo de NY debido a un oleaje nada agradable camino a República Dominicana, pero fue una experiencia muy divertida, al siguiente día visitamos la Isla de St Thomas, de las Islas Vírgenes de EU, en las que si disfrutamos de un día entero y nos quemamos la piel de lo lindo con el sol.

After leaving NY, Vero and I had our next stop in Samaná, Dominican Republic. We only had a few hours to explore the island since our ship was delayed due to some nasty sea conditions after we departed from NY; However, it was such a fun experience. The next day we stopped in St. Thomas, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where we enjoyed ourselves for the whole day and we ended up with an awesome skin burn.

Lelia + Orlando's Wedding

El fin de semana pasado fuí a mi ciudad natal en un viaje relámpago para cubiri la boda de Lelia y Orlando. El cariño que le tengo a Lelia es como el que se le tiene a un familiar, su hermano ha sido uno de mis amigos/hermanos desde que ibamos en la secundaria y desde hace más de 12 años tengo el privilegio de conocerla. Le deseo con todo mi corazón que sea muy feliz en su nueva vida junto a Orlando y que Dios los llene de bendiciones.

Last weekend I made an express trip to my hometown in Puebla, Mexico to shoot Lelia and Orlando's wedding. For me Lelia is like part of my family, her brother has been one of my best friends and brothers since we were in middle school and it's been more than 12 years since I have had the pleasure to know her. I wish her the best with all my heart and may her new life with Orlando may be full of joy and happiness. God bless you both!

Our Honeymoon Part 1 - NYC

Durante 3 días Vero y yo nos dedicamos a recorrer NY, de día y de noche, admirar sus maravillosos edificios, transitar por sus ajetreadas calles y contemplar las obras de genios como Picasso, Van Gogh y Dalí. En esta ciudad uno encuentra todo.

Tratar de resumir Nueva York en unas cuantas fotos es imposible, su escencia va más ayá de los clicks. Seguramente volveremos, ojalá pronto.

For 3 days Vero and I dedicated ourselves to get to know NY; day and night, we admired their marvelous skyscrapers, we walked through it's busy streets and we saw the magnificent works of geniuses like Picasso, Van Gogh or Dalí. NYC has everything.

Trying to capture New York in just a few photographs is impossible, NY's essence goes further than just a few 'clicks'. We'll go back for sure, soon hopefully.

Cuando Fer Juaristi me invito de second shooter a la boda de Analia y Sergio en San Miguel de Allende no lo pensé demasiado, tenía que ir. When Fer Juaristi invited me to join him in San Miguel de Allende as a second shooter for Analia and Sergio's wedding I didn't think much about it. The Colors of San Miguel de Allende

Bueno pues la semana pasada como mencioné en el post anterior, tuve el privilegio de acompañar a Fer Juaristi a cubrir la boda de Analía y Sergio en el bello San Miguel de Allende, aunque no tuvimos mucho tiempo para turistear, los rincones bellos y colores de San Miguel están por todos lados, este sitio es otro de los lugares que hacen que me enamore de mi bello México.

As I mentioned before on the last post last week I had the privilege to join Fer Juaristi to cover Analía and Sergio's wedding at the beautiful San Miguel de Allende. Even though we didn't have much time as tourists, San Miguel's beautiful spots and colors are just everywhere, this is one of those places that make me fall more in love with my beautiful Mexico.

Anoche Fer Juaristi y yo regresamos de la super boda de Analia y Checo en San Miguel de Allende, pero antes de emprender esa aventura que dentro de poco les compartiré el buen Fer nos tenía lista a Vero y a mí la sorpresa de nuestras fotos de compromiso saliditas de horno! Last night Fer Juaristi and I came back from Analia and Checo's super wedding in San Miguel de Allende, but before sharing with you the images from that adventure, Fer had the great news for me and Vero that our photos from our e-session were ready to go! Aprendiendo

Estos últimos días han sido de mucho aprendizaje. Mi amigo Fer me recordó un libro que nos recomendaron llamado The Fast Track Photographer de Dane Sanders.

Yo opino que todos en algún momento necesitamos relajarnos un momento y aceptar la persona que de verdad somos y este libro puede ayudar mucho para conseguir ese respiro. Yo le recomiendo este texto a todo mundo, seas o no fotógrafo, seas o no dueño de un negocio. Ojalá se den la oportunidad de conseguir una copia y se den una vuelta por las páginas de este libro, que en general, lo enseña y motiva a uno a sentirse cómodo con quien uno es de verdad, a ser auténtico y a 'tomar al toro por los cuernos' aceptando tus defecto y maximizando tus virtudes.

I feel like I've learned a lot in these past few days. My friend Fer reminded me that we were encouraged to read the book The Fast Track Photographer from Dane Sanders and so I did.

I believe there is a time when all of us need a break to feel comfortable with who we really are and I believe this book is a great tool to take that break. I recommend this book to everyone, it doesn't really matter if you are a photographer or not, or if you are a business owner or not, In my opinion, this book is for everyone. I hope that you have the chance to go through its pages and find some inspiration there, I'm sure it will help you to keep motivated and to feel great with yourself. This book will really encourage you to take the bull by the horns accepting your defects and maximizing your talents.

Cindy & Leo's Wedding on 8.9.08

El sábado pasado tuve el placer de asistir a la boda de Cindy y Leo en la ciudad de Rio Grande en Texas. Tengo que admitir que desde el primer momento en el que entré a la casa de Cindy, de inmediato fuí testigo de la gran nobleza de esta familia. La familia Longoria me hizo sentir como uno de sus invitados más importantes, no sólo como un fotógrafo de bodas y la única manera de agradecerles fué tratando de dar lo mejor de mí detrás de la cámara. Su boda fué fantástica y divertidísima y estoy seguro de que a Cindy y a Leo les irá de maravilla en su nuevo matrimonio. Muchas felicidades!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending to Cindy and Leo's Wedding in Rio Grande City, Texas. I have to say that from the first moment I walked into Cindy's home the warmth and kindness of Cindy's family felt right away. The Longoria family truly welcomed me to their home as one of their finest guests, not only as a wedding photographer and the only way I could pay their gratitude back was giving my best to capture their special moments. Además de visitar Austin para la conferencia de David Jay, mi prometida Vero y yo aprovechamos el viaje y el talento de Fer Juaristi para que nos tomaran las fotos de nuestra sesión de compromiso en la maravillosa Misión San Jose en San Antonio, TX. After our conference in Austin with David Jay, my fiance Vero and I took the advantage of traveling with the talent of Fer Juaristi to have our Engagement Session photos taken in the incredible Mission San Jose in San Antonio, TX. El miércoles pasado realizé uno de los viajes express más divertidos del año. Mi amigo y colega Fer Juaristi junto con otro tipazo y colega de Monterrey Rafa Ibañez y un servidor nos lanzamos para Austin para asistir a la conferencia Free to Succeed de el increible fotógrafo David Jay. Pocas veces en mi vida he aprendido tanto en sólo 4 horas y conocido gente como Rafa, David ó Kenny Kim (otro gran fotógrafo de Chicago) que uno parece haberlos conocido de toda la vida. Una experiencia realmente divertida pero sobre todo que me ayudó a encontrar una gran isnpiración para que pueda mejorar en el negocio que yo considero el más gratificante del mundo, la fotografía de bodas.

Last Wednesday I made one of the must fun express road trips from this year. My friend and colleague Fer Juaristi together with an incredible person as well from Monterrey, Rafa Ibañez, and myself headed up to Austin to assist to the conference Free to Succeed tour presented by the incredible photographer David Jay. Very few times in my life I have had the opportunity to learn so much in just 4 hours and even fewer I have met people like Rafa, David or Kenny Kim that seemed like I've known them since years ago. It was really and incredible experience that helped me find inspiration and will also help me to improve my business, the business that I consider the most gratifying business of all, wedding photography.

Cindy & Leo's Engagement

El Sábado pasado tuve el plaser de trabajar con Cindy y Leo y visitamos en increible Rancho el Charco nuevamente para su sesión de compromiso. Sólo nos bastó un ahora para conseguir una muy buena selección de fotos. Cindy y Leo son una pareja completamente natural frente a las cámaras, relajados y juguetones así que les debo a ellos más de la mitad del resultado de estas fotos. Los veré en un par de semanas en su gran día!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure to work with Cindy and Leo, we visited the awesome Rancho el Charco again to shoot their E-session. Only 1 hour was enough to get a very nice series of photos, Cindy and Leo are very natural and playful with the camera, so I own them more than half of the outcome of this pictures. Esta semana recibí una de las mejores noticias que he escuchado respecto a mi corta carrera de fotógrafo de bodas. El Lunes recibí un email de la Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA ó Asociación de Fotoperiodistas de Bodas) dándome la bienvenida a su asociación de fotógrafos. Para mí esto es una satisfacción muy grande debido al prestigio de la asociación y a la gran calidad de artistas que pertenecen a ésta, es todo un honor. Gracias a toda la gente que ha apoyado a mi trabajo!

This week I received one of the greatest news I've heard in my short career as a wedding photographer. Last Monday I received an email from the Wedding Photojournalist Association or WPJA letting me know that I was accepted in the association. Mi Ciudad II

La semana pasada hicimos una pausa en toda activida de bodas y de cualquier otro trabajo para atender varios asuntos pendientes en mi ciudad, Puebla. Otra vez, el tiempo para fotografiar fue muy escaso pero el viaje nos ayudo mucho a regresar con más ánimo a estas ocupadas semanas entrantes.

Last week we made a small pause in our calendar and we traveled to my hometown of Puebla to get some things done. Once again the time to take photos was very limited but the trip itself helped us a lot to charge the batteries for the upcoming busy weeks.

La despedida de soltera de Madai fué un evento en el que tuve muchas sorpresas muy gratas. Sólo asistimos dos horas, pero fueron suficientes para captar recuerdos increibles de todas las familiares y amigas de Madai que está a escasos tres mese de comenzar su nueva vida. Gracias por todo y como siempre, te deseamos lo mejor!

Madai's Bridal Shower was and event that brought me many pleasant surprises. Only two hours were enough to capture incredible memories of Madai's friends and relatives that day. As always, we wish her the best in her new life to come starting next October!

Ana Cristina and Chava's wedding was marvelous, the high temperatures that night only helped to fuel all the attendant's joy.
